FLOOD RELIEF

In May 2014, hurricane Tamara and Yvette affected a large area of the Balkans causing floods and landslides.   In Serbia, many towns were inundated by several-meter high waters from nearby rivers.   In addition to having many people dying, thousands of cows, sheep, chicken and other domestic animals perished in the floods.  Although an enormous amount of capital and material was delivered to Serbia and the region, this help did not reach all places, especially in small towns where a number of health centers were partially submerged.

SAMA set up a Flood Relief Fund and received $15,400 in donations, which was used  to purchase basic supplies to clean up, disinfect and medical materials lost in the flooding.   SAMA is proud to say that our volunteers in Serbia were able to deliver urgent help to health centers in Svilajnac, Požega and Paraćin as soon as their needs were identified. A total of $5,000 worth of supplies was distributed this way.  In

Krupanj, one of the areas hit hardest, SAMA purchased a Schiller Defigard 4000 defibrillator. This defibrillator was delivered to Dr. Petar Petrović, the director of the HC in Krupanj on October 17th, 2014 by Schiller representative Mr. Milan Krković.
